Happy Halloween!

Wishing you a Happy Halloween! If you’re out and about trick or treating this evening, remember:

🔦 The brighter the better – If your child is going trick-or-treating after dark, opting for a brightly coloured costume or attaching reflective or glow-in-the-dark tape to a treat bag will act as a safety measure for any oncoming traffic while children are crossing the road.

👬 Nobody left behind – Make sure at least one adult is accompanying primary school children while they are trick-or-treating. Encourage older children to trick-or-treat with friends, parents or older siblings to provide safety in numbers. In case your child gets separated for any reason, make sure you write an address and a contact number inside your child’s pocket or treat bag. Make sure at least one person has a torch to carry in case of emergencies.

🗺 Know the area – Try trick-or-treating in an area that everybody knows relatively well. Drawing a map of your local streets and deciding on a familiar route can make it clear to everybody where you will be going, which doors you’ll be knocking on, and what areas will be off limits due to distance or danger.

🔎 Inspect before indulging – Provide an early dinner before going out trick-or-treating so your child won’t fill up on treats throughout the journey. Always inspect a full treat bag before allowing your child to eat anything, especially if they have an allergy or intolerance. Discard anything that is not sealed correctly, has torn packaging, could be a major choking hazard if it’s for young children, or simply looks questionable to you. Keep chocolates and sweets away from pets.

🚷 We want you to enjoy Halloween, but remember, not everyone wants to take part! Don’t knock if there’s a sign saying “No trick or treat here” and be careful not to frighten elderly or vulnerable people.

Poster Competition Winners

Poster Competition: The Winners!

Congratulations to Sophie, age 9, and Charlotte, age 4, who are the winners of our Summer Poster Competition!

Well done to everyone who entered! The Parish Councillors were impressed by all the designs, which made choosing a winner at Monday’s Parish Council meeting very difficult!

Sophie & Charlotte’s posters will be turned into signs for us to display on the MUGA at East Park Farm, and around the village, to discourage littering. Keep your eyes out for them over the coming weeks

Charvil Pulse Survey Results 2025

Charvil Pulse Survey: Results

At Monday’s Parish Council meeting, Councillors took a first look at the results from our Pulse Survey. Thank you to everyone who responded.

  • 68.5% of respondents have lived in Charvil for over 10 years
  • 74.2% of people scored the village 4 or 5 out of 5 for cleanliness
  • 57.3% scored the village 4 or 5 out of 5 for safety

The key issues raised included:

  • Dog waste on the green spaces
  • Public bins and the bottle banks
  • Speeding

There were also a number of ideas for improving and increasing the facilities around the village. Over the next few months we’ll be looking at these results in more detail, liaising with partner agencies about some of the issues raised and using the results to help steer our conversations on improving Charvil.

Charvil Neighbourhood Plan Consultation

Regulation 16

Let us know your views on the Charvil Neighbourhood Plan.

Charvil Parish Council has prepared a Neighbourhood Plan with the help of the local community. This sets out planning policies to guide the development and use of land in the parish up to 2040.

Wokingham Borough Council are now undertaking a six week consultation (Regulation 16) on the submitted plan, from Monday 1 September to 5pm on Monday 13 October 2025.

Please complete the consultation response form and send to us:

  • by email to policyandplans@wokingham.gov.uk
  • by post to Planning Policy and Infrastructure Team, Wokingham Borough Council offices, Shute End, Wokingham, RG40 1BN

Alternatively you can simply send us your comments to either of the two contact addresses above. Responses may include a request to be notified of any future council decision to adopt the plan.

Following the consultation, all comments received will be sent to an independent examiner who will consider whether the plan meets the necessary requirements to proceed to referendum and potential adoption.

You can take a look at the consultation documents and find out more about the process on our neighbourhood planning webpage and on Engage Wokingham Borough. Further supporting documents, including background evidence, are available to view on the Charvil Neighbourhood Plan website.

Hard copies of the plan and key supporting documents can also be viewed at:

  • Wokingham Borough Council offices, Shute End, Wokingham, RG40 1BN – 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
  • Wokingham Library, Carnival Hub, Wellington Road, Wokingham, RG40 2AF – view the library opening times
