Mark A’Bear MBE
Chair of staffing
My wife and I have called The Hawthorns home since October 1997, relocating from Leeds with our three daughters. We’re actively involved in the Charvil community, from compiling and running local quizzes to participating in conservation efforts with BBOWT and Loddon Nature Reserve. We also lend a hand at local events like the Twyford Round Table Bonfire/Christmas float and Thames Valley rowing regattas.
I retired ten years ago after a 30-year career in the IT industry, working for companies such as Digital Equipment, Microsoft, and Adobe. My roles were diverse, spanning technical pre-sales, bid management, consulting, partner development, and sales management, primarily within the Education sector. My final position at Adobe was managing the Education team across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Since retiring, I’ve remained busy, notably by volunteering as a school governor for 25 consecutive years. I served on the boards of nine different schools across various sectors, including two Interim Executive Boards for schools in special measures, and often held the position of Chair of Governors. I was also a National Leader of Governance and received an MBE for my services to school governance. Through these roles, I’ve supported over 30 schools nationwide and helped recruit 16 headteachers. I also invigilate at Piggott School and undertake other education-related work.
After more than 25 years in Charvil, I’m keen to make a greater contribution to the community. I believe my experience and skills can be valuable to the Parish Council’s work.
